Patient Participation Group - About Us

History

The group was founded in May 2006 following invitations from the Practice to a range of patients.  Approximately 10 meetings a year are held at the Uppermill practice, mainly in the evenings.  The group is supported by representation from the practice at all meetings.  We have had one AGM and also organised an Open Evening for Patients with a "Health MOT" theme.  We are also represented on the Health Development Group for Saddleworth

Achievements to date

  • Create a confidential area in reception
  • Produce a quarterly newsletter
  • Notice boards in waiting area
  • Developed a comments scheme
  • New signage showing all services available at Uppermill
  • Better waiting room facilities
  • Helped to develop a modern website
  • Developed better telephone access to GPs
  • Initiative for reducing missed appointments
  • Promote health awareness
  • Improve practice car park

The Future

We need new independent members to give a broader view of the aspirations of patients in a rapidly changing health service.  Saddleworth is expanding rapidly and we need to be aware of what additional facilities are required, especially for young and elderly patients.
